I currently have the JBL and I am somewhat happy, most likely because I have not heard better. My Mains and center are Sony ES.

This would be for 85% Home Theater and 15%Music.

I am wondering if what I have is good enough or if I need to upgrade. I have a 300 dollar budget.

Thanks in advance.

I assume you think I should get the Velodyne Acoustics VX-10 then?

Do you have it?

I think you should try to spend the whole $300. Seems to me that the quality below the sweet spot ($600) is roughly linear. So $300 should buy twice as much sub as $150.

In any case, you don't give us much to work with. What are the room dimensions? What is your play mix, and how do you like to listen? What's your other gear? Do you care about size? WAF? Is placement free or restricted? Are you looking for high SPL or extension? All these are factors that should affect your purchase.

I have 300-350 max no more than that.

Size is a concern because I have a small apartment and the room is only 20x12 with 14 foot ceilings. The windows are 10 foot windows. This is the main room and is where I spend most of my time.

I do not have a WAF.

Placement is pretty free.

I am looking more for extension I guess because I dont listen real loud.

I have an ES2 Sony Receiver which is 110x6 I have the Sony SSX90ED towers for the fronts. Matching Center and rears. I really like the sound. But the only sub Sony makes is above.

Yes. The Velo is a good sub for the money. I had a JBL 100 watt 10

and I blew the amp it was only three and a half years old. If your looking

for a sub in the 300.00 range also take a look at he HSU STF 1. I have read good reviews on it as well. It all depends on your tastes and the size and

acoustics of your room, If the JBL sounds loud enough and you want something cleaner the Velo is a good choice. If your looking for deeper bass

then look at the HSU. Also take a look at he Velo VRP 12 320.00 and the infinity PB12 at 350.00 or so at Price Grabber. But remember, at that price range it will be difficult to find anything substantially better then what you have now. Cheers.

Thank you again, The JBL is plenty loud enough. It is just sloppy.

I will look at the Velo. Do you know where I can get it cheap?
As I just mentioned on my last post try Price Grabber. I think 6th Ave.

Electronics has it on sale for 165.00 or less. My room is only 10x12

and it vibrates the walls. I think it's the best value Velodyne has to offer.

What sub would cover the largest frequency range to cover where my speakers dont go?

Try moving your JBL sub around in your room. Sloppy bass *could* be caused by some room modes interacting with the sub. Moving it just a few inches can make a differnce. Also, try it placed along other walls. If its currently in a corner, move it out along the wall, or place it between the center channel and one of the L/R speakers.

You may not need a new sub, you may only need a new placement.

Good luck.
