Hi guys,

I need your help to pick a used sub. I have Infinity Interlude bookshelves and center, receiver is Panasonic XR50, and room is about 18x20 (a guess), it would be used for 70%/30% music/movies.


if you get any of the following for almost same price which one you pick? or any other suggestions in the same range?


Paradigm PW-2200

Energy ES-12

PSB subsonic 6i

Velodyne CHT-12

Infinity IL120


Your help would be greatly appreciated.

All of these subs are very good. Considering you have Interlude mains, you might want to go with the interlude sub.


Not only will it make a matching set (Doesn't really matter), but this sub has the advantage of . R.A.B.O.S. technology.




Being able to tune the sub for the room will provide a great advantage. Not to mention you may need the "bass management" crossover setting functionality provided; another forum poster has reported issues with rumbling that can be addressed by changing the crossover setting.

I have the PW2200 in a 525 sq.ft room with a small opening to an office and it does very well indeed. Goes to 18hz (though I personally haven't measured it) and 1500watts peak amp power (400watts normal) it plays very loud (not boomy) as well.


However, I have not listened to the other subs on your list save a Velodyne 12" at a B&M and I went with Paradigm.

Always try to listen with your own ears as opinions vary on performance and sound quality. Your ears very well might not like what other like and look for in choosing a subwoofer. Far too many people think subwoofers all sound the same, but get them in a room and not only is performance different but so is the sound. Direct listening is the only way of separating what you expect and what you want. You should try to find a dealer who has a few so you can listen and at least eliminate the models you can hear directly.


IMO from what I have heard out of the subwoofers that you list, the Infinity is the most balanced and the one I would choose (at least from that list). But its only my ears opinion .... its not subwoofer gospel like some posters in forums think they are capable of.
