I have a set of Polk monitor speakers:

Monitor 50 fronts

CS1 center

Monitor 30 rears

and what's a good subwoofer to match these speakers? I've heard Polk subwoofers aren't great, can someone recommend one?

SVS PB10 or any other SVS sub.

Velodyne also makes some very good subs in different price ranges

HSU

What have you budgeted for a sub? How big is this sub you want? Music and movies or just one or the other? A little more info will get some more help. There's also the Speakers and Subwoofer thread you may want to go over for a little while and get an idea there on subs and see what their owners say about the different brands. Good luck.

I was expecting to spend about $300, but I'd be willing to spend more if it meant matching my speakers better. What kind of range am I looking at to get a good sub that isn't underpowered or overpowered for my speakers?

I'll be using the speakers for music and tv/movies, a good mix of both.

The size of the sub isn't a very big issue. Is there an article that shows the best location for a sub?

How is this Polk sub?

Bic H-100

ED lower end sub (A2-250?)

Used SVS PB10

I had the Bic....awesome sub for ~$250.

Got the PB10 used for a good price - it destroys the Bic in out put.

So now i run both.

But honestly, the Bic H-100 is a great little starter sub.

With a -3db point of 38hz, I'd say it's not really a sub at all. The microPRO 3000 and 4000 look pretty good, but at $1450 and $1700 you can do a hell of a lot better.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Polk fan, but I have yet to hear a Polk sub that impressed me for it's price.
