I would like to know from owners or anyone else which THX speaker package is the best out there. Also is there a package that is good for music aswell as Home Theater applications?

Thanks,

There are a lot of good THX speaker systems on the market ... it's your budget and room size that matter.

The object of THX is to assure the consumer that the speaker will work as intended ... adequate SPL, correct off axis response, correct dispersion, lack of center channel lobing, adequate bass SPL, accurate frequency response, etc ... exactly the characteristics required for music playback in a multi-channel system.

You need to determine if your budget/room require (or want) THX Select or Ultra and then you can shoot the moon from the relatively inexpensive Atlantic Technology systems to JBL Synthesis or Triad Platinum.

Dennis E:

I think the real question is whether or not anyone will hear the difference between a THX certified system and a non-certified system. I have a 20'X30'X8' room and I'm wrestling with this dilema?

For example, in a recent issue of Home Theater magazine the reviewer said he liked the Atlantic Technology 450e THX system but it was lacking in certain areas when compared to their NHT VT-2 "reference" speaker. How are we supposed to interpret that?

Please comment.

Thank you.

Who knows how you're supposed to interpret that. What I can tell you is that neither the AT450e or the NHT's will sound the same in your room.

You can see my other post to this similar question. Yes, you'll hear a difference. You'll also hear a difference between Wilson Grand Slamms and Meridian DSP8000's (not THX). You'll hear a difference between Triad Silvers and AT450e (both THX).

The advantage with THX is you'll know (or should) exactly how they'll behave, what their off axis reponses will be, what their lobing characteristics will be, their SPL curve across the frequency spectrum, etc. You'll *not* know that for a non-THX speaker system.

Oh, Spizz ... whatever speakers you buy, you'll have to install them upside down to get 'em to sound proper. (Snicker) The Kiwi's don't do that, they stand on their heads instead. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

The thing is i really cant listen to any of these as most of the stores here dont carry THX speakers so i have to rely on you guys to be my ears.

Just so you know I currently have the Energy RVSS Speaker system and will be purchasing the Onkyo TX-DS989 and want speakers that will blow my Energy's away.

Currenly these are my choice-

M&K 150 THX System with the 350THX sub.

Atlantic Technology 450e THX System

and lastly depending on price etc.

Triad Gold THX speaker system.

Now out of the above which is better for movies and music and what are the pricing of the systems? Does anyone have some cheap sources for any of the above speakers?

Thanks,

Spero D.
