Which to buy: Panasonic TH-58PZ700U or Pioneer PRO-FHD1 ?

After hours and hours of research, I thought I had finally decided on buying the Pioneer PRO-FHD1. I went to Best Buy, and the Aquarium sample Blu-Ray disc they had running mesmerized me. But then I find out about the th-58pz700u...

For roughly the same price I can get 8 more inches (16% more) and still have 1080p. I've seen mostly positive reviews so far of the the th-58pz700u, except for one poster who says it didn't look so hot in the store. I have yet to see an independent review of this display, while almost every independent review declares the FHD1 king of plasmas.

I've seen Ken Ross' post about the apparent superiority of the 750u series:

But I'm not sure its applicable in this comparison since I'm interested in the 700u, not the 750u.

Has anyone seen these sets side-by-side?

Go with the 700!...you cant go wrong there...it will be = or better to the fhd-1 and it is cheaper if you buy from the forum sponsors or go for the 12% of thing at bb
+ It has more features. The only thing lacking perhaps is the pretty diverse selection of customization on the fhd-1, where as the 700 has much more basic customizing...not a big issue if the tv is fantastic though-however it may be important to some, discerning eyes.

12% thing at BB? Did I miss this somewhere?
I was informed in the pz700 forum that if you are a reward zone member, you recieve coupons...for usually 10%+the reward zone discount=12%...I still found the price better at online forum discounts...plasma concepts, even with shipping...dont forget to add the AVS100 Discount though.
I was one who mentioned the 12% deal - BB regularly (monthly?) mails Reward Zone members coupons that can get you 12% off of various items, including TVs. There are a few reported cases of them giving the 12% off even without the coupon - including me, yesterday. I told them I'd buy it immediately for 12% off, or just wait for a coupon. In sales, today is better than someday (or never), and they gave me the deal (which wasn't really that rocking, given the near-certainty of future coupons). But 12% is a big deal on something this costly.

Yup, the coupons work at BB. I just purchased the 58" last weekend with the 12% off -- saved approx. $575 off sticker. They were also including 0% interest for 36 months on this tv (most of the others were just 18 months). Just got it hooked up last night and it looks incredible.

Has anyone else seen this panel (700u)? They haven't gotten it in yet at my local Best Buy, and I'm considering a blind buy via forum sponsers.
Im Considering get the new Samsung 1080P FPT5084, I recommend going to samsungs website and downloading the user manual PDF, this set is phenomenal, oh FYI, it will allow 1080P through VGA, unlike the panasonic and the greater alleged contrast ratio. Its worth a look considering you can get it for the same price. looks like a better value to me.
Where does it say the Panny won't do 1080p through VGA, Techtonic?

nellie - I've seen it at BB, and it looked good, although it was playing a standard def DVD for some crazy reason.
The lack of 1080p via VGA has been confirmed in the owners thread the only way it has been done via pc is through the hdmi port, but that set also only has two 1.3 ports while the sammy has 3 plus an acceptable VGA connection.
I will be calling Panasonic to check on this tomorrow, then, because I was planning on hooking my 360 up via VGA at 1080p for the HD-DVD drive.
And here's one more question - how do you know that the Sammy VGA will display 1080p? I may be jumping TVs here...
As a home theater rep, based on performance alone and not on price, Pioneer hands down.

Let us know what they say as I am trying to hook my 360 up as well to whatever TV I purchase.

I downloaded the owners manual and it states that it does that on page# well you'll have to download it and take a look.
Okay, I didn't call Panny, but Techtonic is right - according to the Panny manual, it doesn't do 1080p over VGA. According to the Sammy manual, the new FPT5084 does 1080p and just about any other resolution I could want.

I'm cancelling my Panny order. Anyone know when the new Samsung hits stores?
Thread hijack. No big deal though. Apparently a lot of people think there may be a significant difference between the 700u and the 750u. Yet everyone in the poll voted for the 700u over the FHD1. I guess I'll have to wait until my local best buy gets the new Pannys in.
Wow this poll is pretty one-sided. Almost four times as many votes for the Panny. I'm surprised its such a landslide.
its cheaper, has = to or better picture, def. better black levels, and its just as stylish.
