I need a reasonably priced tripod screen that I can set up and take down easily. As I cannot wall or ceiling mount because of the corner location and cathedral ceilings. The screen will be temporary until I can get a dedicated room.

I am considering something like the DaLite Versatol but not sure if it is a good screen. Also, does the Versatol include the tripod or do I need to purchase separately. What other screens and fabric/gain should I consider? There will be some ambient light since I cannot control it completely and viewing will be during the evening.

Ultimately a screen that is microperf might be the best since the screen would be setup in front of the RPTV and may be a problem for the center speaker.

Projector will either be NEC LT150 or LT154.

Size should be around 80x60 (100" 4:3). Or if I go 16:9 around 100" diagonal I may be able to set the screen low enough so the top of the screen is below the center speaker. Not sure which ratio screen is better for these 4:3 projectors however, but can't I adjust the 4:3 screen so that there is less vertical area and set the tripod lower to clear the speaker?

TIA and sorry for the dumb newbie questions.

I have a dalite tripod picture king screen which comes with everthing needed tripod etc.. There is some flexibility in how high the bottom of the screen is because the tripod has some up and down adjustment. I can measure that if you would find it useful. If your goal is to have the tweeters of all your front speakers at the same height you might have some problems. There is certainly room to mount your center speaker on a low stand. The other advantage of the tripod screen is that you can raise the screen only hight enought to capture a 1:85 or 2:35 image but there are light leakage problems if you do that.

smyth22,

I am considering the Versatol 80x60 matte white. The Picture King is $100 more for the same screen material. What are the advantages of the King over the Versatol.

How acoustically transparent are these non-perforated screens anyway?

Da-lite describes the Versatol as durable and the Picture King as rugged. It is all of that. Very strongly built but for home use I wouldn't think that would matter unless you have kids messing with it. Other than that it says that the Picture King can accommodate any ceiling while the Versatol needs at least 8' to open fully. The PK has holes drilled in the vertical support so you can set it at different heights but I assume that is standard. Anything else let me know.

hardwired, I hope you don't mind me bringing up an old thread but have you decided to buy the Versatol matte white? I'm in a similar situation as you -- NEC LT150, looking at a Versatol screen....

Do you have any comments about the screen if you did happen to buy the Versatol. Is it durable as they claim and have you had any problems with wrinkles? Thanks.
