Hi Everyone,

I am pulling my hair out trying to decide what tv to buy. I will be using this tv on hdtv feed from my local provider. I will also be using this tv for xbox and dvd's. From the tv's below if you had a max budget of $1500 and you wanted something that would do 16:9 which one would you pick. Please let me know becuase I have seen so many different models that I cannot decide anymore. I apreciate anyones help in this matter since I cannot decide. If there is a very good one I am missing please let me know. The specs for these can be found at futureshop.ca or sonystyle.ca

The ones I am thinking of are

Toshiba 30HF84

Samsung TXP3066W

Panasonic CT30WX54

Sony KV-30HS420

Thanks a million Terry

If you want to play XBOX HD games which use 720p format, avoid the Panasonic - it doesn't support a 720p direct input. I'd say the Sony is #1 on your list, followed by the Toshiba. Samsung is a lot lower on the list.

I just got a floor-model Samsung txp3271H, and have been very happy except for one problem mentioned in this thread:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=457130

The problem I have might be correctable via the service menu, not sure (I asked for help identifying the source of the problem, but have received no replies yet). But it's only apparent on about 5-10% of the programming we watch, and not very noticeable at all then. I think I noticed it b/c I've done digital imaging work for the last 10 years.

It has DVI-HDCP, 2 Component inputs, 2 S-video, Digital Out, built-in HD tuner... everything that was on my "must have" spec list.

But it is big, at about 23" deep. And weighs 170lbs.

I played around with all the sets I was considering at BestBuy, and this one looked better than the rest (including the Sony 30" widescreen and 36" 4:3 models). Less noise in the images, excellent color, and SD broadcasts look fine.

I will have to get the Xbox HD AV pack (when it's available again later this month). Crimson Skies via the composite connection did not look so good.

I'd have to disagree with Joxer completely.

The Toshiba has had horrible end user opinions, with picture quality.

Sony is generally overpriced, so I always say to avoid them.

I'd recommend either the Samsung or Panasonic.

I agree with you that the Sony HS420 is overpriced, but at $1,000. Its more reasonable, and one can haggle the price down furthur. The 34HS420 is the one that is really overpriced. Its has no hd tuner, no superfine pitch, and the old OSM GUI have no memory save for each inputs nor does it have numeric settings and it cost $200 more than it should be compare to its competitor. Spent an extra money for the XS955 or XBR960 If one decide to get 34HS420 or go to their competitor such as Panasonic or Toshiba which cost $200 less than 34HS420.

Terry, With x-box, go Sony. That seems to be pretty much the concensus in what I've read. Consumers Reports gave the Sony their highest rating--I think 720p support help a lot--followed by the Panny, Toshiba, and then Phillips.

I have the CT30WX54 and I'm very happy. But I don't own an x-box either.
