I just bought a new computer system and am planning to set it up to record tv programs from cable. Just record, not timeshift, and not playback to TV. I'll record shows to VCD (or Divx) for playback from DVD player or separate computer.

I'm here because I'm having a hard time selecting a product. The best one I've found seems to be the AVer Studio TV... but that's from just one reviewer. If I'm correct, the Win-TV stuff doesn't play well with Windows XP.

I'd like to record in stereo with the best quality picture I can get. Don't need to worry about HD signals yet. Quality is a priority, price is important but secondary.

Thanks in advance

Most people don't use a tuner if they can spare it. The stuff on most anything in a PC is fairly crappy. The favored method is s-video input with a nice VCR or TiVO changing the channels.

That being said, I use a Cybertainment one for doing PVR software where the PC obviously needs to change the channel. Honestly, as far as tuners go, I'd say most of them stink equally :)
