I need a 46-55" TV for my computer that will turn off the backlight when the power saving standby mode kicks in. Currently, my Sony LCD TV has a standby mode where the screen is a black screen but the backlight is still on. It's weird since using the remote, I can go to a Picture Off mode where everything is of except for the speakers. That's really what I want but controlled by the PC.

Will the Samsung LED backlit TVs work for me?

Thanks,

Ben

not many or any from my experience with a Sony, Toshiba and now a Panasonic LCD TV i have used all with my PC as a monitor and none turn off like PC monitors do if your PC/TV is setup to do it.

honestly though this matters very little because LCD's will last a long time and if you think your going to pass out in front of the TV then why not use the sleep timer that's what its there for after all

I just bought the Samsung UN46B8500, hooked up the PC to the RGB input, and turned on SmartLED. When I select blank for the screen saver, the PC will cause the panel backlight to turn OFF completely when the screen saver starts up. I assume the same will happen if I hook up the computer to HDMI, but my computer HDMI output doesn't quite synch with the panel, text is a bit fuzzy.

My older panel, a Samsung 550, would turn off the backlight when the PC went into sleep mode, when hooked up to the PC RGB input.

Plus I have noticed whenever the screen goes black it dims all the LEDs backlights immediately. It becomes so dark it appears the TV is off.

Is there a setting for this? My 472 does not exibit this behaviour. It seems the TV sill stay on for hours with a no input message on the screen.

I haven't seen a setting for this. I do get the No Signal screen after the computer turns off, but after about 30 seconds the tv will automatically turn off. Like I said, this is just with the VGA input though.

Hmm... I am connected over HDMI. I see the same behaviour (not turning off) for the BD player connected on HDMI as well as Wii. Have not tested the XBOX.

I am wondering if there are any positive answers to this now?

Will any current TV, when fed a single hdmi input from PC, enter standby when the PC enters standby, and resume when the PC resumes?

Seems like this is one of the key problems with HTPCs.

Thanks!
