Either the 1012_sse2 from sourceforge or the 0709_sse2 from Andy. Sorry no link handy for the Andy build but a search will find it.
anyone out there with a link to the "andy" version?

by the way, who is Andy?

i'm running the 1012-sse2 version, and it has a little stuttering in the image during dvd playback, even with minor preprocessing. something a little more efficient would be appreciated.

Andy, username here AndyIEG, did some hand coding of the ffdshow resize routines. They are / were much faster than the "standard" ffdshow builds. The newer SSE2 compiles are close in performance. He's been quiet recently.

If you're getting micro-stutters then you probably need to look at reclock.

reclock? tell me more....
reclock is a replacement DirectShow audio render that uses the video cards clock as the reference for the audio.

Long story short, it does a very good job at removing micro-stutter when configured correctly. The readme that comes with it gives a very good explanation.

You can get it at reclock.free.fr

I've been running the latest beta issue free for many months now.
but if you're running 30/60 Hz, don't bother....

This is the URL, for some reason I get connection refused......

Try Celtic_Druid's latest CVS builds, compiled with Intel's latest compiler. They're in the same speed neighborhood as Andy's version, but have newer features like H.264 decoding support.

Actually it even helps with 30/60Hz displays too.

I've found that at 30/60 it only eats CPU cycles....

well, i tried reclock, and it completely messed up my system.

i had barely evident microstutters....with reclock the stutters became seizures!

i uninstalled reclock, and the seizures reduced, but were still worse than beforee.

i finally removed ffdshow, and the stuttering is still there (worse than original), and i'm going to have to reload all my software to try and fix it.

i had flawless dvd playback prior to trying ffdshow and reclock.

i guess that's progress!!

No, that's more like stupidity... ;) Never ever change a working system without a full image first! Try for instance the nice, little freeware programs here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...ImagerXP.shtml
I would displute the claim that the newer drivers are in the same balpark as Andy's. I have not tried the latest but as far as I know they do not include Andy's code. They are simply compiled using sse2 optimizations in the compiler. Andy actually rewrote the algorithms using sse2 assembly.

If all you are using is resize and denoise, I would highly recommend Andy's versions. The newer versions are primarily aimed at extending support to newer codecs.

Don't dispute things you haven't tested. Many small changes and optimizations have been made to the ffdshow CVS code since Andy made his optimized compile. Last time there was a thread about ffdshow versions, several Intel users reported similar or better performance when using Celtic_Druid's builds. At least one AMD user reported lower performance, though.
