If XGA is 4:3 and 1280x720 is 16:9 then the wear patterns will be different.

If the aspect ratio is the same, then there will be negligible difference.

It's the static peak whites that burn you badly.

As a guess, if the total light output is such and such, it's probably best to generate that with a beam scanning all the phosphour repeatedly and quickly, rather than with widely spaced raster lines, scanned at a low refresh rate- the latter will be a harder punch.

For some reason though when I send the 1280 x 720 rez it still sends a 4:3 image to my projector just scaled funny. When I look at a widescreen DVD in powerDVD though it does not look distorded.

Chris,

1280X720 will run at 4:3, but is meant for widescreen viewing, in other words, you need to "crunch" your screen height to match the "widescreen" format.

This is exactly what I do when I run 1280X720 on my XG. It's kind of cool when I run DVD's through power dvd, the previews all play in a small 4:3 square on the middle of my screen, but when the movie starts, the screen "fills up" to 16:9 mode.

Some people, like the Marquee owners get their PJ's "modded" to be able to run a native 16:9 mode. Others like me, just adjust Horizontal and Vertical to make a 16:9 picture.........

If I'm not mistaken, a 16:9 modded PJ uses more raster left to right than a normal 4:3 setup therefore producing a more detailed picture, but then sacrificing the fact that you can only run the PJ 16:9 therefore unless you run all your games at 720P (1280X720), then you will not be able to enjoy both 4:3 games and 16:9 movies.....

I could be wrong, but I do think that's the case...

I couldn't really get the ECP to focus to my liking and it wasnt' bright enough for my needs and screen size. Plus I couldn't get my transcoder to work so no video games. The ECP wasn't a bad projector by any means I just would save the hassle of it and go with an X1 if I was going to use the ECP.

However, I did purchase a 8" amrpo 3600 for a little less then 1400 with 300 some hours and just white white rasters, had to dig into my saving account, but I LOVE IT! Takes a little while to focus and converage but its worth it. I wonder now If I could calibrate my NEC PG6 now that I have a lot more practice.

How is your new PJ working out for ya Cliff?

It's the same thing. Marquees need a mod, because the adjustment for picture height in a stock marquee doesn't have enough adjustment range to squish the raster enough. With the mod though, then you can adjust it down no problem, it's the same thing.

If I use XGA rez and when I watch a DVD blank the black border around the image will this reduce 16:9 wear/burn in?

What is blanking good for anyway, is it just masking or does it do other benifits?

Not sure what you mean about the XGA res, and the black borders will remain black regardless of whether you blank them or not. It won't affect anything.

Blanking is useful for getting the edge right, or if you have edge noise going on at the edges of the picture.

It's simple. Where there is light there is wear. The brighter the light, the more it wears.
