To go along with a Mitsubishi WD-57732? ( I don't want to buy a Lexus and put a Kraco stereo system in it.)

Receiver choices:

Pioneer VSX 1016

Pioneer VSX 816

Price difference $409 to $259. the 1016 isn't in stock though and will be a preorder.

I had a Pioneer stereo system in vehicles and am somewhat brand loyal, but not very.

Speaker choices:

Infinity TSS 1100 $500

or

Center - Infinity C25

Front - Primus 250

Rears - Primus 150

Sub - PS 8

$750

I can really only do a 5.1 system as one side of my room opens to the kitchen. I am also not an audiophile.

The Infinity TSS 1100 is on sale an is regularly $1000. The sub is quite a bit bigger but the fronts look smaller than the $750 set.

Opinions?

edit: I put this in the wrong place initially.

Which is the Lexus and which is the Kraco? mitsubishi or pioneer? Be careful with your analogies....

If you get a good price on the Pioneer and Infinity and you like the sound, go for it! I have an old Pro Logic Pioneer AVR that is still in use today. I also used Pioneer head units. Infinity is an excellent value brand by Harmon, so you cant go wrong there either.

You didn't read teh anology correctly.

I am buying the TV. I want a good 5.1 set up to go with it. My intent here is not to buy some cheap and crappy system and was asking about the two HT setups as they relate to the TV.

I am not sure about buying the package deal (TS 1100) or hand pick the set up (Primus speakers) and which is the better deal for the money.

I would go for 1016 as it has better amp and features. Also HDMI input/output (video only).

Opinions?

If price is not an issue, primus series is much better option.

What else have you listened to besides the Infinity?

What's your budget for this system?

I'd recommend listening to options from Klipsh, Paradigm, PSB, Polk, Ascend, Onix, SVS and others in your price range before you pull the trigger.

You can certainly do a lot better on the subwoofer for about the same money by going with something from Hsu or SVS rather than Infinity.

I'm also trying to decide what speakers to get. Since my home theater area will be small, so far I'm considering 4 x Infinity Primus 160 (front and back) and a Infinity C25 for center.

The sub is where I'm mostly stuck at.

Any suggestions on the sub? I have listened to Klipsh, Polk, JBL, and the Primus set up (different sub, don't remember.)

I would like to stay around $1,000.

Save yourself some time, and research SVS and HSU subs only.

No, he works in HT sales and has a VESTED interest in trying to convince people that ID isn't as good as B&M stuff. Simple really. I have a vested interest in neither: for subs, ID is the way to go, unless you want to spend some serious coinage (as in 2Gs or more).

Back to the subs.......

What is wrong with the ps 8? Does it not function well with the system?

It is too small and does not go low enough (specs are 35hz-150hz). If you can live with that, there is nothing wrong with it I think.

You were originaly considering the 1016TX for $409 and the Infinity Primus line for $750... if you can stretch your budget to $1160 (the total of those two options) then there are some interesting options. I'd reccomend something like this...

Receiver - Onkyo SR604 ($330, accessories4less.com)

Mains - Accoustic Research XP410P ($398/pr, J&R)

Center - Accoustic Research XP242C ($59/ea, J&R)

Surrounds - Accoustic Research XP62 ($99/pr, J&R)

Subwoofer - Dayton 15" Kit ($295/ea, Parts Express)

The Onkyo SR604 offers true HDMI switching/repeating with 5.1 LPCM audio over HDMI. The Accoustic Research speakers are on clearance at J&R and are an EXTREMELY good value. The XP410P's have powered subs built in and would be great for music w/ the main sub disabled. The Dayton 15" kit is an another great value, going low (near 22hz in-room) and loud in a fairly small enclosure (assembly is very easy, the box is built, you just attach the amp, connect the driver, and attach the driver).

What would you suggest in the $1000 range that can compare? I personally would add the Outlaw LFM1, how about you?

That depends on what one's tastes/preferances/needs are , but I would say that if you've already found another worth considering, you too may have rolled your eyes at the suggestion that there are only two brands worth considering.
