I am currently in the market to get a new(er) Samsung LCD TV. So I have been looking for deals on the UN55B8000 and waiting for the UN55B8500 to come out. In the mean time BestBuy has clearanced the 55A950.

This is purely hypothetical because I'm not sure that BB has any of the A950 sets remaining

From my understanding Sears will be having a promotion this Sunday on the UN55B8000

REG PRICE $3999

SALE PRICE $2999

$2999

$2699 10% samsung discount

$2429 10% sears card discount

$2308 5% VIP sale

So $ 2308 plus tax

If, big if, I could get the A950 for the clearanced price of $2499 -10% coupon (and big if to use the coupon) = $2249

Which TV would you get and why?

UN55B8000 for $2308 + tax

55A950 for $2249 + tax

Where is the 55a950 that price? I don't know what you should pick but I like the 240 refresh rate and the custom judder settings on the b8000. The a950 isn't as customizable and really thick but it has local dimming. If you look at the a950 you might as well add the xbr8, lh90 and led local dimming Toshiba regza into the mix.

the A950 is being clearanced at Best Buy for $2499. It is no longer on their website and it is likely that they are all gone.

This is more of a hypothetical situation and the question is which would you rather have for roughly the same cost:

1) newest, edge-lit, currently top-of-the-line (soon to be overthrown) by unb8500, very thin, 240 Hz refresh

2) last year's top-of-the-line, local dimming, thicker, 120 MHz refresh

950 has better contrast, PQ, SQ (if that matters to you), and motion (LED Motion Plus along with amp is better than sammys 240 hz). It was widely credited as being comparable to the kuro, the 8000, not so much.
