only buy the MS wheel, everything else will end up as a return (if the store will let you.)

the "shifter" is paddle shift, like the new VW's and Ferrari's.
I've got the MS wheel and I love it. Works well with Forza2, you can get a lot of feedback from the car.

Its not a G25 (holy grail of wheels apparently) but its pretty good none the less.
the g25 kills the xbox wheel.

plus, the xbox wheel had a recall on it, so make sure you check your serial number for that.

since MS choose not to let the xbox support standard USB drivers, the MS wheel is really the only way to go for the 360.
holy cow that logitek g25 is $257 at amazon.

can one of you post the link to the recommended microsoft wheel? i see a sidewinder there. i want to make sure i order the right one.

I got my MS wheel off ebay for $60. I could get like 4 or 5 of them for the price of the G25.
Sam's Club has them for $86+ and they are the fixed versions, so no recalls. I love mine for Forza, PGR4, and Burnout Paradise.

that wheel is PC or PS2 only(I think.... cant remember on the PS2).

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, go for the Logitech DriveFX which can be found for 50 or less rather easily. But there are a couple of quirks with this wheel...... no force feedback (they use axial feedback, which is a gimmick of sorts) and their pedals are a bit akward(too close together and weird angle..... this is my friend's biggest complaint with the wheel- he owns both)

I'm a MS wheel owner and really like it due to this simple fact, it can sit on your lap. The DFX has to be mounted to something for use.

I dont have the room for a table to mount mine on (which you can do with the MS wheel also), so the MS wheel is a no-brainer. It's base is molded to conform to the shape of a person's thighs, and is stable being used this way.

Maybe on consoles, but its just a mid ranged wheel as far as PC wheels go.
Does anyone know if the MS Wireless Wheel also works on PCs like the Wireless Controller does?

I think the only thing you dont get on the PC with this wheel is the force feedback.

From an online review for the 360 controller PC interface-

"The Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver will begin shipping later this month and essentially makes a PC fully capable of accepting any and all first-party Xbox 360 wireless peripherals. The dongle connects via USB and can manage 4 wireless 360 controllers and headsets at a time, as well as the new 360 Wireless Racing Wheel and any future 360 controllers from MS. Installation is a simple driver install, and the dongle has a sync button that ties it to a controller much like the Xbox 360.

As things stand with Windows XP, probably the most useful aspect of the Wireless Gaming Receiver is getting the 360 Racing Wheel to play nicely with the PC, since it's a pretty nice wheel. The wireless 360 pads also work just fine with the Wireless Receiver and Windows XP, but it won't be until Vista and the newly branded Games For Windows roll out in 2007 that the full utility of the Wireless Gaming Receiver will become apparent. Nevertheless, the $19.99 dongle is a relatively affordable and functional accessory for getting double duty out of your 360 controller accessories.

Which is why I don't game on a PC.

PC always has the best, but the price of admission is silly IMO. Heck the price of admission for a 360 is silly!
I have the Logitech DriveFX and really like it. Although, they were not making the MS one at the time, so my choices were pretty limited...
Oh you guys didn't hear? Microsoft is trying to buy Logitech as we speak. You may get your g25 or whatever it is after all
