I was going to buy the RX-V3900 but started thinking a little more about the unit and its different capabilities. I see that Yamaha just came out with a new model the RX-V1065 which is intriguing to me. I do not need the internet radio functionality but would love to take advantage of my 7.1 (maybe soon to be 7.2) setup. I have an old 1600 that does not allow me to listen to 7.1 HD sound.

My question is this: Is the difference between audio component and power between the 3900 and 1065 going to be noticable? I do not listen to movies too loud, but want to make sure that the 1065 will be able to handle my speakers well.

In terms of audio quality, the processing is virtually the same in all the Yamaha models. That leaves features, inputs and power as the primary considerations.

Before I spent the price of a V3900, I'd buy a V665 and a separate amp, (in fact I already did.
) A large chunk of the price of an AVR like the 3900 is the amp and video processing. You really shouldn't need video processing in an AVR, and a separate amp will give you more power for less $$.

That was my thinking as well.

Glad to hear it. If you're mainly looking for HDMI switching, the V665 is the ticket. If you need a lot of coax or optical inputs, look more closely to see if it will serve you. 6Ave is having another "name your price" sale. The V1065 is almost identical to the V665/765 in the front end with a few added bells and whistles.

You can get a decent 5-ch amp with 200WPC with the money you have left over.
