My Hd65 suffers badly while playing Wii Fit. The whites just blur together. It's the worst in the yoga part of Wii Fit where the instructor's face blurs into a faceless alien. I need to calibrate it, but I don't really know the process. Is there a program I can get to do this for me through a laptop?

Well since no calibration disk runs on the Wii (you need to calibrate for each device and type of input so calibrating using a DVD player will not work), I would just try lowering your contrast setting until you see a decent amount of detail in the face. Or you could hack your Wii to run DVDs and use the calibration tool on a THX certified movie to adjust contrast and brightness.

I didn't know you'd have to calibrate with each input. So, I'll just turn up the contrast and let it roll. Thanks.

Actually, you turn the Contrast DOWN. Brightness controls the Black level, Contrast controls the White level. Too MUCH Contrast and the white is overdriven and you get what you've got. With the Brightness, too little and Blacks are muddy.

To add a little info, I'm also running the standard composite cables that came with the wii. Would changing to component cables change anything?

i am unsure whether it will help with your white crush, but seeing as composite on wii is only 480i and component delivers 480p i would suggest you switch over anyhow. you will see a difference(i have compared the two on my brother's wii)

How did you interpret my saying "lowering" to mean "turn up"

FYI component cables on the Wii make a huge difference but some people don't like the change. It makes the image much sharper and you will see more jaggies. I prefer the sharpness but the softness of the component cables can be prefered. Of course there are places where you can get the component cables for less than $5 and then extensions to run up to your projector so I would say it is worth a try.


Also for calibration you can use the free Wii Opera web browser to go to a site that has calibration images or you can even use the picture viewer to bring up calibration images if you really want to.

Off topic, but I'll never understand that... surely if a person has a video game console they also have a computer that is better suited for such a task? The ps3 also allows you to browse the web, a feature that i ignore without a second thought.

Browsing the web with the Wii allows you to calibrate the Wii. If you browse with your pc, you will calibrate your video card...

Lol, thanks but i understood where he was going with the idea. I was speaking of console browsers in general.

Jarrod, I know what you mean, however it can make it a much more social thing. Not everyone has a HTPC hooked up to their TV but a lot of people have Wiis...


As a similar example The Xbox360 does not have a browser so my friend is always firing up his PS3 so that everyone in his house can watch youtube videos together on the "big screen" (a 32" LCD) rather than crowding around his computer.

The Wii is known to have a hot video output which crushes white on (normally) correct displays. The Lumagen Radiance has a setting to correct this, but otherwise you'll have to drop contrast to recover the crushed whites.

Just took a look using the Wii... go to Mii Plaza - you should be able to see every tile on the floor down to the bottom of the screen. As you raise contrast too high the tiles start to disappear starting at the bottom of the screen. Lower contrast until you can see all tiles and you should be good to go.
