I have Dish Network and the 811 HD receiver, and an OTA antenna for locals out of Milwaukee. On NBC digital channel, there is a white flickering line that goes all the way across the top of image. The image is broadcasted with black bars on all four sides, so the line is between top of image and black bar. Does this sound like an NBC problem or with the 811? If image could be raised about 1/2" it wouldn't be seen. Please help me, the line is driving me crazy. Thanks.

The white flickering lines are being transmitted by the station in the vertical blanking interval (VBI) of the video. It's a signal that carries data for closed captioning on the analog signal. You should adjust overscan on you monitor so that you can't quite see the VBI signals.

Dave,

Have occasionally same problem at home also on right and left side. At work as of Saturday the 16:9 image on the 811 has shrunk 5% to right 2% up and marginally on right and top sides. Two of our sets have horizontal and vertical adjustments, this doesn't work as the image is too small. The OTA images thru the 811 show the same anomoly. The OTA thru the sets tuner are normal. When shifting the dish output to 720p we get caca on the 720p sets. The sets affected are HDLP61W151 and HDLP50W151 RCA Scenium, Sony 32" plasma and 23" LCD, and a JVC AV48P575. Not affected is a RCA D52W136D RPTV. Dish hasn't answered e-mails. Any clues? The 811 was installed 12 of 03 and images started doing this about 1:00p.m. last Saturday. Thanks

Does anyone know how to adjust the image on RPTV through the 811? I have taller bars on top than I do on bottom. Thanks. If I could move image up a little I wouldn't see the white line.

I have an 811 and had the same problem.

While viewing a channel where you have this problem...

Go to the 811's system menu (I am at work and trying to remember)

I think it options 9, 1, and then 6 for HDTV setup.

Anyhoo, the target menu is the one where you can set the type of OTA antenae, the aspect ratio of the display device and the resolution (1080i, 720p, etc.).

On the right there's an option to "Adjust" select this. It will then eventually show you the channel with a menu overlay that allows you to move the picture up/down/right/left. Once you are happy, click the enter button on the remote to save the setup, and you're done.

The problem with this is:

1) Not all HD channels have this problem

2) For me after moving the picture up to hide the white bar on top, on some channels, I can see a faint white band on the bottom.

3) For some reason, sometimes I have to go in and resave the adjustment to get it to work - this may be related to 1 above.

I had this same problem with my Samsung 160 OTA receiver and fixed it in the same way. I hope that as HDTV gets going and mature, this will be less common.

Enjoy.

I went to that menu, actually it's 6-1-9, hit adjust, then tried to move image using arrow keys, which it says to do, but NOTHING MOVES. I tried it a couple times but image doesn't move at all. Any ideas? Thanks.

Are those the blue bars above and below the select button? If so you should push and hold up or down or side too side and the image should move slowly in that direction
