White PSP and Black PSP differences

789 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  scottro
Well I know the black PSP is the American version and the white one is the Japanese version. But PSP is region free, correct? So what differences are there between the black and white version except for color?

Region coding on media other than games. I'm pretty sure media other than games is locked.

I don't think I will do anything but games and media on a memory stick. I have a portable DVD player for movies, so I do not need to use UMD movies. Everything will still work from the memory stick, right?
Japan has a black PSP too...the white is just another color. Everything but the UMD movies from the US will work on an import PSP.
I am waiting for the white PSP to get released for the US market. I think it is just a matter of time. Sony will have to find ways to boost sales after a while, so we will see these "limited edition" colors here too...

At the same time I also would be interested learning about the differences (if any) since the white version is readily available from eBay...
White is identical to the black one with no fingerprints visible. Only difference of any major thing is the UMD region coding for movies (games work fine).
The white PSP is supposed to be available in Europe on Monday 5/15...one would assume a US release should be forthcoming.
