I see a lot of people are throwing in the towel and leaving the HD-DVD only camp? I would only hope a lot of people would stay like me and fight to the death of HD-DVD if that happens?

The goal on this pool is to see who is planning and who already switched over to a blu-ray player like the ps3?

NOTE: after reading the poll the saying "Switching to Blu-Ray in 2007" means I will be adding a blu-ray player along side my HD-DVD player or all together tossing the HD-DVD format!

I currently have an HD-A1 and an XBOX add-on and about 51 HD DVD movies. I plan on getting a PS3 for watching BD movies. This way I can get any title I want on HD. I plan on getting the HD DVD version of a movie if it comes out on both formats, btw.

how long depends on price. $99 blu-ray player that works, we would all buy it.

HD-DVD only here. Although I am tempted to pick up a PS3 later this year and only Netflix Blu-Ray titles. That way, I get the titles I want and I get to soak Sony for the $$$ the lose on each PS3 since they won't make any of it back from me buying games/movies

Why no option for 'both' formats? I have both but favor HD DVD. Even if I never buy another HD DVD, the A2 will be my stand alone player for a while. I'd almost contemplate getting the XA2 for just SD DVD playback.

I rent the formats now (except for major releases), no need to pick the wrong format and end up with movies for a format no longer supported.

I didnt see a category that described me, so I chose that I will stay hddvd for now. I plan on buying a BD player when one comes out Im interested in. The ones that are out now are lame IMO. The new samsung looks interesting, but I will wait to read the reviews. For now, Im satisfied with my XA1 and don't see a reason worth upgrading it to the XA2. Maybe when the onkyo comes out I'll review it.

Im also throwing around the idea of a HTPC w/ the new lg drive. Afterall, windvd supports the features of both formats right?

For now HD DVD only. I can live with upconverted DVDs for titles from Fox etc.

This format war is going to swing back and forth for awhile and then stabalize in a couple of years. There are so many unknowns out there. What is funny is how the BD supporters spin everything. If porn goes HD DVD then porn has no influence. If porn goes BD then porn alone will kill HD DVD. These guys are the masters of spin and the HD DVD owners seem easy to spin. If the Chinese were making cheap BD players then the BD supporters would think it was a good thing. If HD DVD floods the market with Chinese players then we're supporting poverty wages, unreliable players and we're immoral! Their agenda is to undermine HD DVD in each and every circumstance, no matter what. The latest is to suggest Universal will soon go neutral. Its the poitics of fear and these guys are good at it! Are they getting paid? Some probably are. To some extent they have made me dig in my heels and NOT purchase a BD player (at least for now) - screw them and the format they rode in on.

Cheers,

Buying HD-DVD got me an outstanding upscaling player plus the ability to play HD-DVD, all for $500. Buying BD would get me only the ability to play BD, and for easily higher cost than my original investment. HD-DVD was high Bang-for-Buck, BD would be very low Bang-for-Buck.

What it comes down to is the only reason to purchase a BR player is if I have dollars to burn. Since I don't -- it's a no-brainer non-issue.

If Blu-ray "wins" I will be getting my HD from cable, OTA and my HD DVDs. I want consistent quality HD. Blu-ray doesn't offer that and all their stumbling around results in me having zero confidence in the technology. All indications in my mind are that it's more of an uphill battle for Blu-ray than it is for HD DVD.

I'm not supporting a format per se, I am supporting the films my family and I want to see. If they happen to be on one or the other, then so be it. I own about twice the number of HD DVDs as I do BDs, but the numbers will get closer in the coming months.

I must admit that as of right now, the HD DVD player was an incredible value, as an upconverting player and HD player it is hard to beat, minus the semi-annoying load times. The PS3 is also another astounding value, whether looked at solely as a BD player, a game console, or even better, both.

I'm in a win-win situation, but I must admit that it is a bit bothersome that they couldn't agree and we all know that greed was the determining factor on both sides.

Right now I'm HD DVD only. In order for me to buy into Blu-ray, they will have to actually have some movies I want to see. They are also going to have to have a reasonably priced stand alone player. Right now, they don't meet either of those requirements. If they don't meet the latter, I'll just watch the upscaled DVDs.

Given all the latest Sony crap and seeing that BD flyer, I have been thinking of leaning HD DVD exclusive based on principle alone. Should a movie I like not come out because it is a BD exclusive - then I will live with the upconverted SD version instead. It is not a life or death thing that I get the BD version.

I will certainly not give Sony any more numbers by buying a PoS3

I will stay hd-dvd unless no new releases come out. That said, I do plan on getting a blu-ray player when they are reasonably priced so that I can watch blu-ray only titles until all studios switch to hd-dvd.

Why would I not stick with HD DVD? Just because the BDA announced a couple of movies? Wow, didn't see that one coming

Seriously though, Sony and its pals have always been good about announcing all kinds of things. When it comes to delivering (on time and in good quality) though, that's a different story.

HD DVD until Blu-ray comes up with a way to compete in price. You can't beat $199 for an add-on HD DVD player.

There will have to be a $300 Blu-ray player for me to even consider a switch. Until then, HD DVD and upconverting SD DVD is fine with me.
