Caveat Emptor... that's what the defenders of Hollywood keep saying with regard to HD(CP)-DVD, to the screwed early adopting HDTV buyers who won't see any high definition.

With the onset of AACS, where Hollywood will hold the innocent public end user responsible for their bad, or lack of, business agreements with manufacturers, (Hollywood can come into your home and "break" a component you legally buy in order to "settle" a licensing disagreement they have with that component's manufacturer) it is now imperative that we research and verify every license and part agreement used in our components.

Additionally, someone in another thread noted that 1080p is indeed part of the HD spec and as such, should be expected to be supported in all our HDTVs as much as should be the HDCP input.

So.. with Hollywood holding us responsible for knowledge and understanding of these technical specs and of each components actual licensing for its' processes, firmware, software and copyrighted parts, this poll is to determine how many of us actually do this now.....

To keep this simple, for this poll we'll limit our pre-buy research to each component's licensing.

BTW... if you indeed do verify each and every license for each of your components before you buy them, PLEASE share with us how you do that and the sites and resources you use to do so which guarantee accuracy and warranty our components against AACS disabling.

Thank you very much for making this poll moreso than just one of an AVS member awakening and resultant bitching session!!!!

Is there such a thing as a license that doesn't stink?
The smelliest ones are the ones you passively agree to... ;)
