Why are folks complaining about being scalped instead of thanking sony for a low ps5 price?

Here in mexico ps5 consoles are fourteen thousand pesos so around seven hundred dollars plus change.

Same price at Sam's club or liverpool, sorianna, heb, Palacios de hierro, et all here in mexico.

To me I do not get why folks complain they had to pay 700 dollars in the u.s. when that's the regular price that we pay here in mexico.

And no we do not get any options to buy a ps5 for only five hundred dollars.

So is there a special Sony and Microsoft discount price for a rich nation like the u.s.?

Just wondering?
Thanks.

Going to guess that has more to do with things like taxes, distribution cost, and exchange rates since they tend to not bake a lot of margin into console prices.

Not having a lot of success finding information on what kind of import duties Mexico has on game consoles though.

There aren't even any good games yet, who cares?

You should be waiting for a re-design and a price drop regardless.

The only reason I want a PS5 is to play Nioh 2 in a higher resolution in 60fps.

It's eight percent on an import to mata.ta.mo.ros. ta.mau.li.pas. mexico thus five hundred dollars export with zero taxes plus eight percent import duties.

So I'm wondering how does 500 dollars u.s. console turn into seven hundred dollars mexico console unless there's a price cut for u.s.?

Hmm going to ask Sony mexico, Sony u.s. and Sony Japan about this?
Thanks.

You think that's worth $500? God bless you for loving that game so much
I think most people are only complaining about Scalpers/Bots who are charging double on EBay, etc..... There is more demand for these new consoles than ever before. I think most console gamers recognize the price + performance, otherwise they would go the PC route. Currency/Exchange rate MSRP's are always tricky, there has to be a reason if that is import price. I am looking forward to the framerate increase over my launch edition PS4 on my 120hz screen.

At best, the PS5 will be $300 in a few years. I'll end up getting a PS5 sooner or later, so I view it as paying a slight premium if I can buy it at MSRP any time soon.

VAT is an additional 16%? Did you include that too?

Anyway, even if it's not simply higher import duties and taxes, there's plenty of other possible reasons the PS5 might be priced higher in Mexico including the cost of sales, distribution, support, the likely potential income from digital sales, and market considerations.

But I'm not sure why you're wondering why Americans would complain about paying more. What do you expect them to do? Go live their life or something?

A few years? You must have the best luck in the world getting a launch system to make it past that. My launch fat PS2 died after 3 years, my launch PS3 60gig died after 2. Multiple dead 360s. Dead PS4 after only 4 years. PS5 costs way too much to play that game. A quality PC build isn't gonna die.

My ps3 slim still working after hundreds of hours. I think you either have really bad luck, high ambient temperature or have bugs crawling in your system at night. Maybe they make the first iteration of consoles not as reliable? A lot of variables to consider when dealing with console longevity.

PS3 Slim is NOT a launch system! Which was my point! I said LAUNCH systems die, and they have almost every generation. Even my launch Switch needed service. And hundreds of hours? Try thousands on a gamer's machine after a few years.

With the amount of gaming that I play, I'm not worried about a console dying. That being said, the only launch consoles I've ever had an issue with was my original Xbox and my Xbox 360. Both died after several years. My launch PS1, PS2, PS3 were all still running when I sold them. My PS4 Pro has a ridiculous number of hours on it, but I did install a SSD shortly after purchasing it.

As for PC's, I can see why people love them for gaming, but there are too many console exclusive games that I want to play.

This is arguably the biggest draw to the ps5, now that MS puts pretty much all 1st party games on PC.

The biggest draw for consoles is they're cheaper, connect easily to TV's and in general are far less hassle.

Interestingly those are the same areas that the cloud gaming initiative is attempting to exploit, except they want to get customers hooked on a subscription model.

OP,

Companies can sell for whatever price they want wherever they want.

People should feel lucky when they live somewhere that provides them with lower prices than what others pay.

I guess they sell the PS5 cheaper in the US simply because they know a lot of systems will get sold and they influence a lot of stuff in the industry. Just how it is unfortunately.

The biggest draw for me to get a PS5 is just simply because it’s a console.

I know a PC can provide better resolution and faster gameplay with its mouse and keyboard. If I was a console gamer who gambles, I certainly wouldn’t bet against a pc gamer. To me, it’s also not that pc gaming rigs are too expensive. They are, but thats not what keeps me with a console. And I know pc’s have access to more games. It’s just not about the benefits of pc vs console. It’s simple. I’m just an old dog who wants to do the same tricks.

I want to game on a console because that’s how I grew up. Mario came in a Nintendo, and that’s how he got to my screen. Before that it was Atari and Coleco Vision (awesome system by the way), but Mario was the boss. I guess it’s the nostalgia that makes me want to have a console.

After the Atari 2600, I was strictly PC gaming because the difference in quality was huge. Once the PS3 came out and consoles finally left behind NTSC video, that all changed for me. It just didn't make sense to plonk $400 on a video card every couple of years when I could get a Blu-Ray player with a console built-in. I'm also not fond of mouse/keyboard gaming ... I'd always been looking for a decent joystick or game-pad for my PC and that too was a hassle for many years.

Consoles in general yes, but if you have a pc, then ps5 over xbs is almost a no brainer.

Playing old games was actually part of my going to a pc. The ability to set up retroarch and stream it to any TV in the house was a big draw. Still need to find a device that can dump cartridge games though.
