Why do audiophiles hate entry level gear so much?

Audiophiles don't hate entry level gear. They just don't like bad sounding gear.

The problem is who determines what a good speaker is. I would say that audiophiles find it difficult to embrace the idea that a good bookshelf speaker can be had for $200/pair.
they just have higher standards, or a more critical ear

there might be some snobbism in it too

Show me a pair of $200 speakers that sound as good as my $1000 speakers and I'll buy them.
The problem with that logic is that some $1000 speakers sound like $200 speakers.
It's just like the car community. Why buy the V6 mustang instead of the V8? It's just a never ending battle.

I for one would rather have a few dive vacations every year then high end speakers. Give me my Energy speakers and I'm good.
I heard some high end speakers and they do sound nice and all.

but,hey don't let these audiophiles tell you low entry levels sucks.

If they sound good to you then hey what u have to loose ?

lol, I guess the next thread should ask....

"Why does anyone care what anyone else thinks about their setup?"

Another thing, if it wasn't for the entry level gear, the company probably couldn't stay afloat based on the profits on just the high end gear. In other words, comapnies need the draw the entry level stuff brings in to help support the high end speaker lines.

Now that's a good question! It's obvious people do care though -- lots of threads arise where folks are covertly looking for "approval" for what they've bought.
People just get excited when they experience something new and like to share.

hehe "covertly"

We all definitely care but there is always a reference point that everyone has to remember is completely different from member to member.

I'd say there are two kinds of Audiophiles: the rich snob out to prove he's got the best kit, and the rest of us that cherish great sound. I won't concentrate on the snob and will only say that to buy almost any of the cheap stuff would be like going to Wal*Mart to buy quality furniture. Yes, Wal*Mart is cheaper but when the item lasts 3 months and needs to be replaced 5 times as frequently as "the good stuff" then the fact that you saved 60% doesn't pan out. In the long run quality is not only better but is, in fact, less expensive.

Now, I will add that even the non-snobs will sometimes bias a purchase in favor of the better 'name' even if there is no detectable advantage to it but the difference is that the snob almost doesn't care about the quality as long is it looks good and shouts, no I meen SHOUTS pricey!

There is a third kind called the anti-audiophile that likes to tweak, tinker, rip apart, build......just to know how things work.

Every audiophile should ask themselves if they are more into the experience of listening to the music than the music itself.
Don't know about type 1. Some are convinced that my system is garbage for stereo because I use a home theater avr. Some are convinced you can't have great sound without a $3000 CD player, a $3000 DAC, a $2000 pre-amp and a $7000 amplifier. No thanks.

Why buy a new V8 Mustang when you could buy a used Corvette?
