Why will the Optical Audio Out not send audio when the TV is connected via HDMI??? Common sense would tell me that's when you need digital sound sent to your HT Receiver!! That's what the Optical line is for, Dolby Digital... If I watch a program through the S Video connection sounds comes through the Optical Line, although not Dolby Digital because Svideo is not a "Digital" signal.. What's the point of having a Digital Optical Audio Out if it turns off when you watching via Digital signal? Is is just me or is this totally screwed up??

This is the way they are designed. I have an HLR and HDMI will pass stereo out the optical but not surround. The optical out will only pass surround from an antenna input.

If you are using any other type of component, you need to connect an optical cable directly into your receiver, bypassing the tv, to get surround.
