I have HDMI from my DV-59AVI connected to the Pro-1110HD media box.

How do I connect 5.1 audio from the box to my receiver?

The only audio out from the media box is an optical jack and there's no

audio coming out from there. I think this is output only when DTV is connected.

Anyone know? Pioneer Tech support was no help.

HDMI is only for video at present. Connect an optical cable from the DVD player

to your receiver (or media box). I don't know how the media box functions and

whether or not it "relays" optical cable data - if at all possible. Connecting to the DVD optical to the receiver

is guaranteed to work. What does the media box manual say?

larry

Edit: from looking at the manual it looks like the optical out of the media box is only

for whatever digital signals are carried on the other inputs (cable, ant, D-VHS via i.Link maybe).

It never mentions connecting anything but video from a DVD player.

Edit2: I just read a post where somebody said they can hear sound

from DVDs via HDMI. I don't get it.... But he did mention not

"surround sound".
