Why is 1080i Inverse Telecine performance so bad on 7950GT 512MB AGP?

On my older 6600GT card, when I turned on this feature, it didnt seem to affect my 1080i playback peformance. I think, because its disabled for the slower older video cards.

Anyway, I just turned this feature on for my new 7950GT AGP. When I playback 1080i video, the video is very slow and choppy. I checked my CPU consumption and its not much different than when I have this turned off.

It shouldn't do anything at all with video sources. IVTC only applies to film.
So... I wonder why when I turn this feature on, it adversely affects 1080i video sources (ie jay leno, live sports, etc). Something isn't working right.
