Why no Scarface and Lock, Stock . . .?

They're getting remastered releases this month on SD DVD, I wonder why Universal didn't release HD versions day and date?

Cause they got their heads up their asses :)

I belive that's a Tony Mantana quote
Scarface IMO won't be long, they just brought out a revised "Platinum Edition" DVD set, I don't think the HD-DVD will be far behind.
I love Lock, Stock... but I can't imagine that it would be HD DVD worthy. It was shot on 16mm from what I remember - grain city.
Universal, new master recently, it all adds up, Scarface soon, same for Casino

Cinemascope at it's finest, I can almost see it already :D

We will get Scarface soon and then can bank on 10 more double-dip releases of it down the road, lol. We need the Double Platinum Iced out 4 disk edition!!! LOL...

I do look forward to it though...

I hope they put the original audio track on the Scarface HD DVD. The new DVD coming out has had the sound effects re-recorded *shudder*

While the original audio track would be good to include, I think a movie like Scarface (1983) could benefit from some re-recorded sound effects. Although truer to how the movie was originally made, the sound effects in the previous SD DVD release just didn't fit the content and look of the film to me. Deep, tight LFE and crisp, clear surround sound effects suit this movie well in my opinion.
Scarface is on AMC right now.

This is one of my favorites, I've already got the Anniversary Edition, but I'll definitely buy the HD DVD when/if it comes out.
man this is the hd-dvd ive been waiting for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe they're working with the hip-hop community on IME features.
I've got the edition with a silver and black cover(think there have been like 5 since then), but I've been holding off for HD. I'm sure it won't be long, this is Universals Army of Darkness(which they ironically own as well, yet Anchor Bay are the ones whoring it).

I own the SD 2 disc that came out 2-3 years ago and I watched it just this past weekend. The sound is actually pretty bad. The gunshots sounds like they should be in a 50's western or something. Even upconverted on the A1 the PQ is horrendous, too. There is so much noise it almost takes your mind off the terrible baby blue suits. With the HDDVD I want to see each hair sticking out of his half buttoned shirt :D

Sorry have to post again to get off 666

lol
The whole idea of re-creating the sound effects is very bothersome to me...especially if they are not director approved. Remastering is one thing; re-creating something is another. This seems like another Jaws debacle. This is a 20-something year old movie and is not going to sound like Batman Begins.

Well, i guess it depends. The Jaws job was just horribly shoddy. I believe it is possible to sound good. I didn't think the Superman remaster was bad at all but obviously others disagreed.

It's possible that I don't know Scarface well enough to notice anyway.
But Superman was director approved as far as I know. I'm fine with that.

I've heard that Scarface was not director approved here, and that's my biggest issue (The DVD DiviMax Halloween transfer is another example of this). As a result, I would rather have the approved, original track -- even if it doesn't sound as good.

I wish they had done a 5.1 mix for The Searchers
