Does any one know why only ABC supports dolby digital 5.1. All other channels dolby pro-logic.

Thanks,

Fox and PBS also go DD5.1 on occasion.

But I do know what you are talking about. ABC is the only network that seems committed to full time DD5.1. I hope others come around soon.

FYI: Please use a more descriptive subject in future posts.

Purchasing the proper Dolby equipment for AC3 and turning the meta data on so your receiver will light up DD5.1 is the easy and cheap part. Producing compelling DD5.1 content is not easy and is expensive as an ongoing production cost add on. Having said that, the easy part referenced is the necessary first step so let that, at least, happen. Then we can all be bickering about this and that program is showing up as DD5.1 with nothing except for the center channel active, because the show itself is in mono.

I still haven't seen a single program shown in DD5.1 on NBC. Its been posted that NBC did DD5.1 during the 2002 Winter Olympics and also during the 2002 Triple Crown. Both HD productions were done by HDNet.

The 2003 Triple Crown was parial HD, but not DD5.1.

What you mean by that ?? Not beyond their control room.

Is it that Jay Leno is in 5.1 Sound but the TV stations are not transmitting it in 5.1 sound ??

I assume that the control room is capable but they aren't sending it out that way yet.

A show like The West Wing desperately needs the 6 channel sound treatment, or something better than what they're dong now. The dialog is often so muddled it can't be made out even with repeated rewindings/playbacks. It's a shame that NBC hasn't got DD5.1 sound even on the drawing boards. FOX will have it before them. (and judging by last weeks botched HD premieres of several shows, they'll have HD before NBC too!:D )

Hate to burst ya bubble, but the olympics wasn't done in TRUE 5.1, as the

host broacaster only provided the games in pro-logic..NBC was one of the first to "fake" the 5.1 at the network level.. this from one of the NBC engineers who was directly involved in the Olympics.. Network Tv could probably add to this..
