They still have their proline series plasma's, however, they did not see the profitability of producing consumer model plasmas over LCDs. As you may know they dropped their entire line of rear projection sets to focus on LCDs and upcoming OLED.
From what I've read in the past , Sony for whatever reason didn't want to invest in a great deal of R&D on plasma tech early on. As a result other companies got ahead of them in both R&D, and market % for plasmas. So rather than play catch up in th Plasma market, they put all their eggs into the LCD basket and pushed that tech. I'm sure there's more to it, but that's pretty much what I got out what's been written.
