I'm trying to figure out how to get a 16x9 widescreen image out of my Sony 550 DVD player. I am feeding this to a Sony 1271. In the setup menu on the dvd, there are 3 screen options. They are 4:3 letterbox, 4:3 pan&scan, 16:9/4:3. I select the 16:9/4:3, but it makes no difference in the output signal. I still get a 16:9 movie letterboxed in a 4:3 frame. Anyone know how to do this or if it's possible?

BTW, before anyone suggests it, I do plan on building an HTPC ;)

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

You've got your DVD player correctly set in 16:9 mode. I've got a 1272, almost identical to your PJ. You'll need to set the Vsize and Hsize on your projector. The best way is to invest in a Setup disk, like Avia or Video Essentials. They have the correct test pattens for setting up your projector.

What size and aspect ratio screen do you have?

That was the problem. I was thinking i would see a wider picture when you I selected the 16x9 aspect ratio, but I understand how it works now. I adjusted the the size controls and it looked great.

Thanks,

Brian
