I wante to purchase the Channel Master 4228. I will be mounting in an attic. WIll it fit through a 21" x 28" openning to go into the attic? My second choice is the 4221.

Thanks for any help,

I see your confusion. I also did not understand the Channelmaster dimensions listed on their website until my 4221 arrived.

For the 4228 the width is 39.5" and the depth is 6.5".

For the 4221 the width is 20' and the depth is 4".

The length for the 4221 (and I also assume the 4228) is approx 36" including the support pole piece that would fit into the mast.

It looks like the 4221 would fit your opening and the 4228 would not.

Hope this helps.

If you take off the rear screen (it just snaps off), it should fit your 35" diagonal opening.

Yes, they ship assembled (surprised me too when mine arrived). But it is not very hard to take one apart to fit through an attic opening.
I put one in a opening of 25 x 28 and it barely fit diagonally, I think your gonna have to take it apart and reassemble.

I am confused. The CM 4228 is a square. I understand it comes apart. The square when disassembled is the measurment I am looking for? I assume it is 39.5 inches in one direction. This won't fit through a 21 x 28 hole even diagonally. What is the other measurement for the square?

I need it to be 35 inches or less.

Thanks,

Vfrjim you said you got a 4228 through a 25 x 28 hole. Was this with is assembled? Or did you disassemble it? Because if you barely got one through a 25 x 28 hole disassmbled it does not seem I have a chance getting it through a 21x 28 hole.

Thanks for any help.

Jym, you are correct. I need to go measure my attic opening. Even though I have real dormer windows on my roof for attic access from outside, there is no way a 39.5" can be accommodated through those dormers.
It is possible to not only take the screen off the back, but you can drill the rivets out that hold the two bow-tie arrays together. You won't have any parts over 20" wide that way. Then you could re-assemble the thing with nuts and bolts once in the attic. IMHO though, it's not worth the effort. I think if I were you, I would go with the 4221. According to some tests, the 4221 has as much gain as the 4228 on higher numbered channels anyway, and is not so directional, which might be good if all you stations are not in the same direction.

This was assembled, it was a tight fit diagonally.
