If you're concerned with NTSC playback on your European Sony, then don't worry about it, as any current european Sony model features support for both PAL and NTSC color systems. However, if you wish to play DVD's coded for region 1 on your region 2 machine, then they won't work, unless your machine is modified before you purchase it or you modify it yourself. There are many DIY kits available online, however you must have some experience in electronics repair to be able to successfully install such a kit for your Sony.

Thanks.

Can anyone please tell me if they were able to play Region 1 DVDs on the European Sony DVP-NS900V?

Thanks!

Kain,

you need to do a firmware hack for DVP-NS900 to enable it to play all regions. After that it should be able to output interlaced output for all region discs.

cheers,

Thanks.

So are you saying that the "stock" European DVP-NS900V will only play Region 2 DVDs?

Kain, all DVD players leave the factory coded for whatever region they are heading for. So a European DVP-NS900V will naturally only play R2 discs just as an American model will only play R1 discs. However nearly all players can be modified to play a disc from any region - some will require re-chipping others just require a code to be entered.
