I was reading this article and watching the video. According to the spokesperson, you will be able to download feature length movies in 4 minutes.


Is this thing real or just vaportech?

Cisco CRS3


Let me preface this by saying that I would still go with optical personally and prefer the format, but this would really change the game I think. I have heard for years that we would bottleneck soon. Does this change it?

It's real, but it's ridiculously overhyped in that press release. It's just a faster router for ISPs and backbone-level networking. It has no effect whatsoever on you or your bandwidth at home. The last mile will always be the bottleneck for internet bandwidth, and these routers don't improve anything on that end. Nobody is getting a 1080p movie in four minutes without gigabit fiber to the curb.
