In the threads about DLP longevity, I've not seen any discussion about the durability of the color wheel filters. I don't know these materials, but I remember the theatre lighting we used when I was in school always caused the color gels to fade and eventually burn right through.


Is that a possibility on DLP/LCOS (single chip) sets?

The same result for the LCD panels too. But, it's so gradual, no one will notice without seeing another reference source.

I am told that the way the DLP color wheels are made, they will *not* fade with time.


In the case of the Philips single-chip LCOS, the light primaries are made with a prism that separates the light and creates the colors. If that interpretation is correct, it would defy the laws of physics for there to be color fade.
