No, it does not use a full height frame buffer. So it will not be 480p. 480p requires more processing power from the PS2 (unlike Dreamcast, Xbox and gamecube which have native full height frame buffers), and going interlaced lets the PS2 have better graphics, since it is rendering only 240 lines at any one time rather than all 480.


And deinterlacing an interlaced image is not as good as true progressive as far as image detail goes. Just FYI.

I'm pretty sure a properly flagged DVD can be deinterlaced just as good (as long as no filtering was done for interlacing), but I can't imagine deinterlacing video games being that good.

PS2 was designed in a time before DTV became the norm......

My TV will deinterlace a DVD *way* better than my DVD player will output it in progressive scan. however progressive scan video games look far better than letting my TV do the deinterlacing.


Just letting everyone know my own person experience. This is with a Hitachi 60V500A btw, RP LCD.
