Am I correct that at that seating distance (in the question) it won't matter with a 50" tv because I won't be sitting close enough to notice the detail of the 1080p or 720p or at least one over the other? At 16 feet wouldn't I need a much larger screen to start worrying about 1080p vs. 720p? I wear glasses too so now I really am in trouble.

edit: btw, I've seen the charts. I wanted to know from real folks.

Correct again ... too far for your eyes to resolve any difference ... the 720 display may actually look better since the bigger pixels sometimes can throw more light ... and seem punchier ...

To play devil's advocate, know that when you typically upgrade to 1080p, there may be more than one reason to buy it besides resolution.

To give you an example.

Panasonic makes a 720p plasma (50c2)

The 1080p one offers 1080p resolution and a slighter better anti-glare coating on the glass. (50s2)

The G20 offers THX mode (a more accurate out the box picture mode) + internet features.

And then the VT20 and VT25 offer 3D.

So just know when you jump to 1080p, you aren't just getting higher resolution.

JUST FYI
