I was just wondering if plugging unused RCA connectors on my receiver would help in any way. If so, do I just use/make shorted connectors?

Some folks do this and claim it has a sonic benefit (lowering the noise floor). The claim is that RFI is getting into the unused inputs and bleeding into the 'active' input.

It is definitely inexpensive to try, although I've never bothered with this myself. Take care not to switch your receiver to the shorted inputs (one of the reasons I haven't tried this).

Switching to a shorted input results in the sound of silence...or the sound of the thermal noise generated within your amp.

Does this apply to digital inputs as well? I'd certainly be more concerned with shorting those and switching to them (accidentally) than analog inputs.

Thanks,

Yes...inputs do not output any current, shorting them is not a problem.
