Will REW work with my Laptop?

Not sure this is the best place for this thread, but since so much talk about REW for a Sub's response is posted here, I thought I'd give it a try...

I've never used REW, but have read many threads of folks who do. I read the requirements for REW, but I'm not sure the Soundcard in my laptop is Duplex to use the In and Out at the same time.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with the internal sound card. It has (2) Headphone jacks and one Mic Jack. I've read that with REW, not to use a Mic input, but LINE IN. Mine doesn't have a LINE IN labeled, but if you hook up a device to the MIC input, a window appears asking if this is MIC or LINE IN.

First question: I assume if I choose LINE IN, then I'm good on the Line In requirement for REW?

Second, I have two headphone out jacks. Can I use one of those as the LINE OUT, or does the sound card have to have another output specified as LINE OUT to be used for REW?

Third Question, will the internal sound card of the Dell Inspiron 1525 work in Duplex mode for IN/OUT at the same time to run the REW software and analyze my Sub response?

Sorry if these are elementary questions...

the headphone out should be fine. The Mic in most likely will not. I would try it tho. If it doesnt work, there are external soundcards that are fairly cheap.

Check out Hometherateshack.com. There is a whole subforum dedicated to REW.

Been checking HT Shack most the evening. Still nothing definitive. Some say they couldn't get the SigmaTel Soundcard to work, others said it worked fine.

My Mic Input gives you an option when you plug in a device of either a MIC or Line In. I'm wondering if my card works at Full Duplex. I think I read somewhere that it has to be full duplex to work with REW.
Just download it and try it. Nothing to loose, it's free and if some are reporting that it's working with your sound card it's worth a shot. If it doesn't then as stated above an external sound card is inexpensive.

Thanks...Going to buy the cables and give it a shot.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and I couldn't get REW working right with the stock soundcard (think it's also the same SigmaTel). I picked up the USB SoundBlaster for like $50 and it works flawlessly.

Maybe a little of topic but, I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 and "Spectrum Lab" can't read straight from DVD's to make waterfalls. I have the same internal sound card.

That is what I use with my Dell laptop and it works flawlessly.

Thanks
Just curious, does anyone know if an iBook and iMic (pre-amp) would work if I got a mic?
I performed the Soundcard Calibration on my SigmaTel Soundcard in my Dell inspiron 1525 laptop and it worked.

USB soundblaster card doesnt work with Vista though, I went through some hell there
and the Shack has a whole thread on that too.
