i read that vcd format is mpeg1 and dvd are mpeg2 format.

and that dvd format is backwards compatible........thus being able to play on 99.5% dvd players....?

is this true??

i noticed this when on ebay looking at a star wars trilogy "vcd" set---that they claim will work on dvd....

any help here?

thanks in advance, brandon

Check out this site. It's a good source for VCD, SVCD et al technical info.

I've had 4 DVD players and the VCDs have played on all of them, and on my friends' as well. There's a chart on that site that also lists DVD players and compatibility with different formats.

Good luck!
