Please forgive if this is a little off-topic, but:

For reasons too lengthy to explain (primarily involving an inadequate number of analog source connections on my TV monitor and A/V receiver), it has been suggested to me that I run the analog composite video signal from our DirecTIVO into the composite input on our VCR and back out again through the composite out connection of the VCR into our receiver or TV monitor.

Will running the video signal through the VCR in this manner degrade its quality?

Thanks for your assistance.

In general, anything added to the signal path will degrade the source. The question is -- will it be noticable to you? This depends on the quality of the source, the VCR, the cables, and your eyes. Try it and see what you think. It will probably work fine.

With audio/video, think of it this way: If you know it won't enhance the signal, assume it will degrade it. But like PlasmaSquid said, you might not notice. Try it and find out, that's the only way you'll know for sure.
