Win 8.1 x64 hates my AVR (same machine running Win7 x64 worked fined)

I am completely lost on this issue.

I have a i3470 ITX box as my HTPC. This has Intel HD Graphics 2500.

When I built this machine I ran Win7x64 Ultimate (30 day trial version) and it ran fine (had some trouble getting it to accept the most updated drivers (15338) for Intel 2500, but it ran fine with the previous version (15335)).

Yesterday I got Win8.1 Pro x64 and all I did was "upgrade" the OS and now it hates my AVR (Pioneer VSX-1120K). The HTPC either does not boot (will perpectually restart) or the image on the screen is completely messed up.

Now I know this is a problem with the AVR, the direct HDMI connection to the TV is perfect. Direct HDMI to a smaller monitor is perfect too. It just does not want to work with the AVR.

And I have isolated the problem back to the Intel 2500 driver. Running the default Microsoft Driver the computer like the AVR (but there is no 7.1 HD Audio passthrough on this basic driver, so its moot) so you have to upgrade to the Intel HD graphics 2500 drivers and I know that 15338 never worked with the machine was a Win7 box, so I went with the 15335 and it still does not like it. This is the same driver package.

I can't go back to Win7 so I have to figure out why Win8 is not working.

There are no firmware updates for VSK-1120K (or none that I could find).

ANy ideas?? Same exact hardware (with all applicable updates) just a different OS.

Try booting the HTPC up connected directly to a TV and then once booted up, disconnect from the TV and connect to the AVR. See if this works. You might also want to do a clean install. Upgrade installs do leave a lot of garbage around.
Nope, it does not work.

I have done 4 installs (3 of them clean) and it does not work.

The only way it works is with the "Microsoft Basic Display Driver" which defeats the whole purpose of an HTPC.
Have you installed the latest Intel driver? I think the latest drivers are from last month.

If the HTPC doesn't boot sometimes, there's undoubtedly a problem with it or the OS install.
This is definitely a driver issue. The Microsoft Standard Display drivers and some version of the Intel Driver work flawless on WIn7.

Available Drivers for Intel HD Graphics 2500 supporting Win 8.1 x64:

15338: This one also is the latest for Win7 x64. Does not work when the machine is Win7 box or a Win8 box, impossible to install

15335: Previous version. Worked fine when the machine was Win7 and had no issues in communicating with AVR. Everything worked. But does not like AVR when installed on Win8.1 x64. It works when pulled into a normal HDMI input (including directly to the TV or other monitor). As of last night this does not show up as a download option, so Intel assumes that 15338 is great when it clearly is not.

153117:Does not support 8.1 (explicitly, it predates 8.1). I found this one by accident. Approved only for Win 7/8 x64. This works great on a Win7.

Is support for 8 and 8.1 interchangeable?

How do I find a library of all previous drivers for a given Intel hardware? Its fairly easy with ATI and CCC, but Intel some how thinks of only keeping 1 or 2 drivers on their page.
