If you've already installed XP SP2, then Media Connect will show up automatically in Windows Update, as an optional software update. If not SP2, then looks like you can download directly from the link above.

I got my GoVideo D2730 to work with Microsoft's media connection tool. I am not sure I see any advantage over the bundled software that came with the D2730 but is sure nice to see the industry going this way.

Even if Media Connect is no better than bundled software - having a common app beats the heck out of having to install a different proprietary streaming server program for each different brand of media client you might buy. At least, that's the theory...

What did you do to get it to work? I tried Media Connect and it didn't find my D2730. Thanks.

Nothing special. Are you running a firewall? I am not.

I tried it again and it worked (sort of). The govideo unit was called "device 1" and had no info available. Also when viewing jpg pictures they did not display full screen. There was a very thick black border on all 4 sides. When the same pictures are viewed using the govideo server they are full screen. From what I have read the govideo unit is not support by the current version of Media Connect, although it is supposed to be in a future version. I guess I'll just wait and see because the current version doesn't really provide any benefit that I can see.

I also have the Dlink DSM-320 that I use mostly for audio. The huge advantage of windows media connect over the bundled software is the WMC servers ability to play protected files. Tested it yesterday with some copy-protected windows audio files and worked like a charm. Hopefully Microsoft will continue to upgrade the WMC software. I would like to be able to play the Internet radio stations on the DSM-320 that I now play on the Windows media player on the PC and would be nice to play the movies I download from MovieLink.com. With MP3's and windows audio files Win XP was only reporting that I was using 1-2% of the bandwidth on a 54Mbps wireless connection.

Does anyone know if Windows Connect can plan WMA Lossless?

Windows Media Connect can share lossless WMA files, but whether it can be played depends entirely on your UPnP client device. You'd have to check with the vendor of the client box (eg, D-Link, Roku, OmniFi, etc).
