You have explained things far better than Winegard has done on their web site. It's unfortunate that the web sites for companies like Winegard and Channel Master are so awful.

Rick, you explained this very well, thanks very much. I am in a similar situation wrt distance from the towers. I live south of Boston, about 17 miles from the towers in Needham. I get decent NTSC reception on most VHF and UHF channels, however some of the higher frequency UHF channels (44, 56) are fair at best, probably due to some very tall trees in my backyard that diminish the signal to my rooftop attenna combo (30 yr old Jerrold, recent CM 4-way bowtie, Cm 0549 U/V combiner). Unfortunately, when I rotate my antenna to find the UHF hotspot for improving 44 and 56, the VHF channels take a noticeable hit. I've just ordered an LG lst-3100a ATSC tuner, hoping that the digital signal will be strong enough to lock for all of these channels from one antenna orientation. I plan to use the 480i output of this tuner until I take the HDTV plunge. Any comments/suggestions that you have on this would be great.
