Hello !

I've been using PC to watch DVD, and Divx for the last 3 years or so..

I recently bought a projector.... and now i notice one thing that hasn't

been so obvious before... The playback is not as smooth as you could expect....I do not meen that it is jerky,,, but if you compare it to my regular dvd player (DVp-ns 900), there is a difference...

In some scenes (for instence 3 rd scene in solaris) this is quite obvius...

I have tested this with a couple of computers.. with at least 2000+...

Processor usage... ,ight be around 20 % or something.....

I've also tested.. many different graphics cards (radeon geforce etc)... and audio (SBlive, Nforce) cards...but i just can't get it to run as smooth that i would like,,,,

It dosen't matter wich player i use (windvd, power dvd or NVdvd)....

I start to think that it is winxp... causing this... with multitasking....

Did also test to raise process priority to high or even Real time....

This is a real pain in the ass..... because the picture quality from PC is great.....

Does anyone have a clue... ?

Does anyone use Linux to play dvd... can this be better... ??

Welcome to the world of HTPC and its brother Microstutter.

Im guessing you are using NTSC discs. You will never get rid of the microstutter due to the 3:2 conversion ie 24fps(film) to 60hz(video).

There are possibly hundreds of topics on this - so do a search.

WARNING - people have lost their mind in the pursuit of stutter free playback!! ;-)
