What does that wire do on the lens of the G 70's (and 1292's)?

I shipped a G 70 that got smashed in transit, the green tube got nuked so I sent a replacement. The customer tried firing up, and got a 'lens' error, then found that two lens mounts are nuked as well.

Can he short those to ground tro see if the set fires up?

Also, while I do have another G 70 in stock, do the lenses off an XGLC fit a G 70?

Thanks!

Hello Curt

He can just short them to ground no problem.

I don't have the answer for the lenses.

Hello Curt,

this wire is just a safety item so that you don't fire up your CRT without lenses in place and stare to the face of the CRT without protection for radiation.

The lenses do filter the X-Rays and the grounding wire just tells the CRT that the lenses are in place.

Curt,

I took a cuick look at an XG lens and the G70 lens last evening, and they do look the same to me. I wouldn't be surprised as both projectors use the same P16 CRT. I didn't take the XG lens and see if it will bolt on the G70. The thing that would be missing would be the ground strap on the XG lens.
