So, My little tv in the kitchen isn't cutting it. My wife would like a larger one, that mounts under the cabinets, instead of the one on our island.

But, the basement is finished and I can't access it to put in new wires for the other side of the room...

So, I'm looking for options.

I was thinking wireless and found a RF Link AUS5811 that runs 5.8ghz (to keep it clear of all my other wireless items, phone, internet, ect.)

Does anyone have any experience with this? Can I hook up to my hd signal from my direct tv dvr, and receive hd signal to the wireless tv in the kitchen? Or does it just change it to 4:3 tv signal?

Do they work well?

Thanks,

I don't think you'll be able to receive an HD signal, but it looks like a good solution for standard TV. It only has composite inputs, so i don't think HD is an option.

Looking around, I found this FAQ link on their site, and they state it will only display a standard def picture:

Hope this helps.

The only thing I can think of that is out NOW and does require selling a major organ is the sling-box. Then get a pc with wifi ( maybe the 22inch HP touch screen )

BTW, the Gefen box still isn't out...and they want 1k for it. At that price, you might consider fishing some cables.

Another option is to use a thin, nearly invisible, fiber-optic, fishline type cable with an HDMI receiver and transmiter such as from Owlink. The line can be run along baseboards and cabinet edges and even painted over. It's not cheap, however.

Thanks guys for your help. I looked at the one at radio shack and then bought the RFlink from amazon. So we shall see how it works. I started installing the flip down tv last night... Hopefully it will be done today. When my wife designed our house, she has 45 degree angles in the kitchen, so I have some room inside the sides of the cabinet to run our powered antenna so that I can pick up HD signal without the cable box, and then I'll use the RF Link to run the direct tv signal into the set for her. I just need to run another power outlet hidden in that area, build a few shelves inside there... And put all the hardware inside so it doesn't show.

PS. The flipdown tv she wanted was a coby (not many choices locally for flip down tv's...) The retail was $249.99. Amazon had it for $199.99 on Sunday morning. But, by the time I got home from church they had raised the price to $209.99...

So I started searching. HHGregg had it on sale for $218.97. But, they only had the display model in stock... So I asked for the manager, and talked them down to $189.99 for that one. But, before I took it home I asked to check it out powered up, to make sure it all worked...

The DVD tray wouldn't open...

So they sold me a new one located at another store for the same price.

With retailers hurting, this is a great time to haggle.
