What do you define as advanced?
They exist, either in cheaper DVD/receiver combo style HTIB (Panasonic has at least one model) or in kits like the Rocketfish that you can add to a HTIB, like an Onkyo system.
They work, in the sense that sound gets to the speakers. However, from the few I've heard, they picked up interference from anything that had a 2.4ghz frequency (cordless phones, wifi, etc.) I've seen reports that they knock wifi offline, too. They might be acceptable for you, though.
Also, they don't completely eliminate wires, just the wires running from front to back. They still need wires running from the rear receiver to the speakers. The rear part also needs a power cord/outlet.
