I would like to see if with the 40, 60, or 80Gb or wireless adapted 20Gb PS3 if there is any apparent router communication problem. If you prefer to use hardwired ethernet that is your preference, but if you could help other AVS members out that would be awesome. If you have a wireless router, see if you can maintain a connection.

If you could please post the router type/model to help futher AVS wireless router/PS3 users check for compatibility.

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE - SSID Broadcast Alert! - 12/21/06

According to protoboard's post - he has found a fix for the disconnect/connect issue (repeated connects/disconnects with about 15-30 second intervals) with the linksys wireless b router by turning of the routers broadcast of the SSID information. Since then he has had no disconnects. He has made it aware to Sony as have I in a phone call today via a followup to my orginal problem. This may or may not work for other routers that have fallen into the not working category.

This has apparently fixed the problem with a netgear (b) router as well.

UPDATE - WRT54G Firmware Fix - 6/8/07 - Linksys Routers

After reading many posts on the Playstation forums and here at AVS, I felt it was necessary to update this thread. At the time of FW 1.8 release on 5/24/07 many Linksys wireless router users were once again stricken with a disconnect issue. As it turns out the problem originated in the implementation of the media sharing feature of the PS3. There 2 are potential solutions depending upon your situation. ONE: disable the media sharing feature on the PS3 if you don't plan to use it. TWO: disable UPnP in the router. For most people just turning off UPnP solved the issue. Others went on to finally set up a static IP for the PS3 (many of us had already done that) and then enable DMZ in the router for the PS3 IP and in some cases that helped as well. Until Sony or Linksys creates a fix - these are the possible workarounds.

If you have the WRT54G router, there is a new firmware that may fix some of these issues: Linksys WRT54G update firmware .

I do not hate, this is not a fanboy post or anything of the sort.

I want to point out the X360 also has compatibility issues with Wireless Routers, which is why MS suggest people buy certain kinds.

From the list you guys have here and what is available here seems the same routers mentioned work with the X360's wireless adapter.

It may be that the compatible routers for the X360's XB Live will also be compatible for the PS3

reseting your modem, router, and pc will most likely fix start up problems.

Linksys WRT54GX4

I've tried:

restarting modem/router

static IP with port forwarding/DMZ

Switching wireless channel

Allowing just my PC and PS3's mac addys and disabling WPA

Nothing has fixed my problem of constant disconnects from the Playstation Network, but I can still browse the web perfectly on it, which really frustrates me (browser works great, can't sign into PSN)

Interesting that two people with the standard WRT54G have no problems, but your variation "X4" has problems.

So you can browse the web using the PS3 browser? But when you connect to the PSN it disconnects you? Wow, if that's the case, I have no clue, and the problem is way over my head.

Linksys WRT54G works perfectly fine here. I have the router on the 2nd floor and my PS3 is in the basement with 70% signal strength. Downloaded mororstorm demo fine 1st shot. When I downloaded F1 I got one timeout error but on the second try it went through fine. It took some time though. Motor Storm took about 65 min.

Routers that Don't Work:

Linksys BEFW11S4 802.11b 2.4GHz (mine)

Netgear MR814v2 802.11b

D-link DI-524 802.11b/g 2.4GHz

Netgear WPN824 802.11 b/g RangeMax Wireless Router (from playstation boards)

I have the DI-524 and would like to use the wired connection on my PS3 (which I don't have yet). Is this thread only referring to the wireless portion of the router? Will a wired connection to the DI-524 work with PS3?

Yeah I'm rather confused with the whole situation. A "possible fix" has been posted on the official playstation boards, which is to switch out your primary DNS with your secondary/tieritary*sp*. I'm going to try it once I get home.

Wierd thing is that my signal never drops below 95% yet I still have all of these connection problems.

My post from another thread -

I don't think it has anything to do with routers of any brand. I have the Linksys Wireless WRT54G without the signal booster. It's actually pretty fast. But i know someone who bought the exact same router and always getting disconnected. we're both about 20 feet away from the router. My signal strength is 97%. i don't know his.

it might be useful to include the firmware version each router is using.

Mine works fine wired...just not wireless.

That would be a great a idea too. I know mine is the latest for my router - I checked the linksys website. Will post later - need to work.
