Hello guys, we are Northeastern Business school entrepreneurship students who are doing a consumer survey for our project called “Smart Speakers”. Our idea is to design a set of multi-sided wireless speakers to cover a wide listening area for different houses with limited number of speakers needed. With the help of a Calibration APP we are going to make and the built-in microphone on your cell phone or tablet, the sound-field of these “smart speakers” can be calibrated by the exact position you are sitting in your house. The number of speaker you need depends on the space of your room and the sound quality you want. You can also control all the speakers simultaneously or separately.

Specifications:

ABS plastic case with piano painting, Black/White

Compact Size with multi-shielded design

4 inch single-point concentric driver

100 watt amplifier total

wireless interface module

Power Cable Connector

DSP processing box

IOS/android control app

If the retail price is $399/speaker, will you buy it? Any recommendation or comment for our idea?

Thank you guys very much. We are looking forward to and appreciate your reply.

Sincerely,

Jehutymoon

What’s a “multi-sided” wireless speaker? Is there only one 4” driver – if so, how do you get a multi-sided?

What do you mean by calibration? Location to the main listening position (MLP), room response, frequencies, etc?

What’s the source material – TV/AVR/Smartphone? Your interface would need to be different for each one.

What are you trying to solve? Who is your target audience? How are you going to market/distribute/sell these? What would the guys on Shark Tank say? It sounds like you’re targeting the BOSE crowd so you’ll need to spend a TON of money on marketing. Social media “ain’t gonna cut it”.

Having said all that – no. I won’t buy it. Small speakers = small sound and I want bigger speakers and bigger sound!

*edit* just thought of something… scrap the idea of building of smart speakers and just build a universal wireless kit and app that someone can buy and use with their existing speakers, or license the technology to the well known speaker manufacturers.

Not only are you planning to go against BOSE, but most likely Sonos as well.

No thanks I would not be interested given your price point. There are cheaper well proven things on the market already.

Hmmm. Guess we scared him away?
He might be back. We all occassionally have great ideas in theory until a person tells us about a product that is just like that they were planning on inventing and is cheaper.
