I posted this over in the "Home Theater General" section but though maybe it would be better here.

I am curious how everyone has wired their surround speakers that you hang on the wall. Do you just have a pair of wires hanging out of a hole where you are going to hang your speakers or do you have electrical box with a plate and connector? It seems to get the speakers flat against the wall, you would need to have the wires just coming out of the wall.

How did you guys do this?

Thanks in advance!

You only need a box with power circuits. Speak wire et al. is low voltage, so just drill a hole.

i'd assume you don't even need the box. just drill a hole exactly where the wires will come out of the speakers. hang on wall - hole will be covered up. now what to do with it once it's in the wall is another question.

What wire (gauge, code, etc) are members using to pass throught the walls and attic? I understand that we cannot use the regular I.E. Speaker King 12 gauge due to fire hazard.

Yup, that's fine.

The speaker will cover the area where the wire hangs out of the wall, so there's no real need for any junction boxes, etc.

I have all my cables (must be around 10-11 guage including the jacket) running around the floor at the point where the wall meets the floor. It's only visible near the front door where it passes by the mat. Otherwise it's behind furniture for the rest of the 45ft run.

Bare wire vs box.....

I was just going to poke the wire through the wall but the wife made me put boxes with nice faceplates.

Think about what happens when you sell house - the face plates look "professional" and you can say the house is pre-wired, blah blah blah.
