Wise to invest in original xbox for complete access to xbox games?

I've been debating this subject because someone wants to sell me an xbox with wireless controller, and 13 games for $100.I'm really thinking about this because there are a plethora of old games in the bargain bins now for as low as $5,many of which aren't BC.I don't have complete confidence that every title will be eventually BC,and even some of the ones that ARE BC I understand have certain issues with the emulation.

Plus, there is the peace of mind that every xbox game I want I can get without having to remember whether it works with my 360.So I guess it sounds like I'm trying to convince myself, but does anyone think this is a prudent move or will we ever see 100% backwards compatibility with 360?

It is a good way to play all those games, and cheap too.

I have one i've been thinking of selling. It comes with 40 or so games and two controllers.

PM me if you are interested.
Hmm... I say it depends if you think it's a good buy for yourself.

I have an original Xbox and to be honest, it's been sitting in it's box since I brought home the 360. Though, any original Xbox game I have runs in the 360, so I haven't any need to use it.

Test it out first. The original Xbox had some disc drive problems and at times had issues reading purchased discs (mine is one of those models). MS replaced the drive on later models.

Sounds like you want it. I'd say go for it. With all of the easy mods you can do to an original Xbox, it would be worth the $$ right there (to me anyway).
$100 for an original xbox and that many games is a great deal. As Mike LS said, there are also easy ways to mod it, which will make it even more useful. Put in a new hard drive in there and you have a fantastic machine that rivals the 360, as far as fun goes.
I think investing in an xbox is a pretty poor idea. There are much better places to put your money if you want to invest it...
I have two 360s and one modded xbox. I use it more for a media player then for games, but it was used last night for a 3 way racing game and some halo 2 lan fun. 13 games and a xbox sounds like a good deal. Then just add a bigger hard drive and a mod chip.

That's a pretty tempting offer right there. I've been thinking about getting another one because the original DOAX is not backwards compatible and Shenmue II, though BC, is buggy.

Are Xbox Live gamer tags interchangeable between the 360 and the original system?

I don't think he's really seeing it as an investment. Any electronic item would fall into the poor investment category.

He's asking if he'll have fun with it and everyone thinks "yes". Especially with the mods available.
Just for the record,I owned an xbox from launch till last year.I sold it foolishly thinking the 360 would eventually run all the original games, but as time has gone on,I'm thinking more and more that there are quite a handful of games that may not become BC that I'd like to play.I've been into a game store several times recently and seen some great deals on xbox games, and kick myself because the game's not playable on 360 and I got rid of my xbox.

@ Pink Floyd:Thanks for the offer but because I live outside N.America,it's more hassle to do any sort of transaction with you.Plus I'd like to test the machine prior to purchasing.

For the record here's the deal on the table for $100:

Xbox console w/Wireless Controller

Armed and dangerous

Rainbow 6 lockdown*

Destroy all humans

Black*

Dynasty Warriors 5

Blinx 2

Lord of the Rings..the third age*

Ghost Reckon 2*

Call of Duty Finest Hour*

Need for Speed most Wanted*

Voodoo Vince

Metal Slug 3

GunGriffin Allied Strike

* denotes the games I'll likely keep, the rest I'll try and sell cheap and get some of that $100 back.I figure it's a good deal...
